Defty

Born N'Goran Serge Koko in 1985, Ivorian rapper Defty was the youngest of nine children born in Bouaké, but moved to several towns including Bondoukou, Korhogo, Man and Divo, where his father's career as a gendarme led him. Lulled by the French chanson of artists such as France Gall and Vanessa Paradis, he gradually discovered rap and decided to follow in the footsteps of his role models Almighty and Stezo, while remaining open to American and French hip hop culture, with figures such as IAM, NTM and Booba. He began rapping in earnest in 1997, but it was writing that he concentrated on first, enriching his influences by discovering French and African authors while studying modern literature at university from 2004 onwards. It was while at university that he formed his first rap group, Crac (for Club de Rap et d'Action Culturelle), and even released an album in 2007. After his studies, he developed his beatmaking skills and offered his services to other artists, releasing several mixtapes that never made it beyond the underground sphere. In 2016, things began to move with singles such as "Kala-kala", "Afghanistan" and "Système". In 2019, he releases the album Defrow, from which the single "La Fille du commissaire" is notably extracted. After the Jagger EP in 2020, two new records are released, Nostradamus in 2022 and Jejak Farm in 2023.
