Danish National Radio Choir
The Danish Radio Chamber Choir is a 31-member ensemble that forms the core of the 75-member Danish National Radio Choir. This larger ensemble was founded in 1932 in order to complement the Danish National Radio Symphony Orchestra. The Danish Radio Chamber Choir was founded five years later by conductor Mogens Wöldike under the name the Danish Broadcasting Corporation Madrigal Choir. The choir quickly developed a reputation for performances of a cappella repertoire, especially in numerous commissions of new music. In 1972, English conductor John Alldis succeeded Wöldike as principal conductor of the choir. Subsequent conductors have been Per Enevold (1985-1988) and Stefan Parkman (1989-2001). Upon the retirement of Parkman, the choir decided to continue without a regular principal conductor and instead to work with guest conductors.
