Umek
Uroš Umek, aka Umek, is a Slovenian DJ and producer who has been active since the early '90s. Born and raised in Ljubljana, Umek was originally drawn to acid house, but he eventually converted to techno and quickly developed his stark, aggressive approach to the genre. He has released 12" singles and EPs on dozens of labels, including several he either founded or co-founded, such as Consumer Recreation, Recycled Loops, Astros Discos, and 1605. Among his most notable albums and commercial DJ mixes are On Monoïd (Monoïd, 1999), Neuro (Tehnika, 2002), Umek? Hell Yeah (Hell Yeah, 2009), Responding to Dynamic (1605, 2010), and two volumes of Toolroom Knights (Toolroom, 2010 and 2013). Additionally, he has remixed tracks by the likes of Space DJ'z, Speedy J, the Advent, and Depeche Mode. He claims to play over 100 gigs, all over the globe, on an annual basis.
