The Yot Club

Under the Yot Club banner, solo artist Ryan Kaiser makes hazed-over bedroom pop descended from both the atmospheric lushness of chillwave and the cutting angles of early-2000s indie rock. The project first broke through with the 2019 track "YKWIM?," and continued to explore new territory on releases like the 2022 full-length Off the Grid and 2023 EP Amateur Observer. Kaiser started making music early on in life, and he first began sharing his songs online around 2014 under the name Amateur Observer. In 2019, while attending college in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, he changed his project name to Yot Club and released his first single, "Jaded." Kaiser played all the instruments himself and recorded and produced the track in his bedroom, calling on the same homespun aesthetic as indie surf or chillwave artists, but also including pop undertones that evoked the steely catchiness of Phoenix or the Strokes. He released his first EP, Aquarium, in January 2019, followed it with the song "Japan" in March, and then issued his second EP, Bipolar, in May. The Bipolar track "YKWIM?" took on a life of its own, quickly accumulating tens of millions in streaming numbers and alerting major labels to Yot Club's existence. During this wave of attention, Kaiser relocated to Nashville, working on new music consistently. The funk-inflected Nature Machine EP arrived in 2020, and he released his debut full-length, Off the Grid, in 2022. Yot Club's sound expanded on the album to include flashes of R&B, chamber pop, and West Coast folk-rock breeziness. In 2023, in addition to releasing new music in the form of an EP called Amateur Observer, Kaiser collaborated on singles with Jordana and Spill Tab.
