The Woodys
The Woodys are the Colorado-based singer/songwriter duo of Dyann and Michael Woody. The pair met in the 1980s at college, even going out on a lunch date, but went their separate ways, only to reencounter each other a decade later in LA. They became close friends, eventually marrying in 1993. Their debut album, The Woodys, was released by Rounder in 1998, and featured the duo's tight, Everly Brothers-derived harmonies laid over loping Buddy Holly-like rhythms with plenty of Byrdsian jangle tossed into the mix. The Woodys' second album, Teardrops & Diamonds, which came out on Scena Records in 2004, followed a similar template, and was highlighted by the beautiful and haunting "Message From Michael," based on an open letter written by former Byrds drummer Michael Clarke after he realized that his death from alcohol abuse was imminent. With their skilled writing abilities and stunning harmonies, Dyann and Michael Woody make a clear bright spot in the contemporary Americana universe.
