The Pheromoans
English post-punk band the Pheromoans deal in sharply observational lyrics delivered in a droll deadpan, usually over snarling instrumentals that express exhaustion as often as excitement. The group regularly released new music, dabbling with adding roguish electronics and pursuing various production approaches to their post-Fall punk style as they moved from early albums like 2011's It Still Rankles to the 2024 full-length Wyrd Psearch.
The Pheromoans began sometime in the mid-2000s with a garage rock sound, which they captured on their 2007 cassette release Between the Wine Shop & the Lido. As time went on, however, vocalist Russell Walker's sung-spoken lyrical presence became more of the songwriting focus. The Pheromoans explored experimental tangents and songs that utilized minimal electronics on releases like 2012's Does This Guy Stack Up?, 2014's punky Hearts of Gold, and the ultra-limited 2020 release I, Mustard Mitt. In 2024, the band released their 13th studio album, Wyrd Psearch, with London label Upset the Rhythm.
