The Kemist
Errol Kemar Thompson, who operations under the moniker the Kemist, is a Jamaican DJ, artist, and producer with an ebullient, bass-heavy sound that combines earworm melodies with wry lyrics.
The son of reggae royalty, the Kingston native's father is Errol Thompson, a well-known radio personality and musician, and his mother is roots reggae legend Marcia Griffiths. Thompson's first appearance on-stage (at the age of three) was with Bob Marley, and he spent his formative years acting as music director/musician in his mother's band. His first taste of success came in 2013 after featuring on Yellow Claw and Tropkillaz's club anthem "Assets." Collaborations with international DJs Sak Noel, Juicy M, DirtCaps, Lny Tnz, and Cesqeaux followed, and in 2017 he struck gold again with a remix of Zedd and Alessia Cara's "Stay." He inked a deal with Universal Music the following year and issued the single "Body Can't Lie" featuring Nyanda (Brick & Lace). The Mayhem EP appeared in 2019, with the high-energy singles "Summer Body" and "Bassline" arriving in 2020.
