SUPER☆GiRLS

SUPER GiRLS, also known as Supaga, are a J-pop group put together by Japanese record label Avex Trax in 2010. The group was formed after multiple rounds of auditions, beginning with around 7,000 hopeful performers. By February 2010 that number was whittled down to 1,000 participants for the second round, and in June the final round cut the number to the 12 members who went on to form SUPER GiRLS' starting line-up.

They made their live debut on August 7th that year and in December their debut album 'Chouzetsu Shoujo' was released though their first single 'Ganbatte Seishun' didn't come until the following April. In 2012 the follow-up album 'EveryBody JUMP!!' was launched and went on to become their best-selling album. It proved to be a big year for SUPER GiRLS - in July 2012 the group released the single 'PuriPuri Summer Kiss'. The song reached number four in the Oricon Weekly Singles Chart and number ten in the Billboard Japan Hot 100, selling nearly 72,000 copies in its first week.

Over the following years they had a string of hit singles, regularly placing in the Oricon top ten. Since 2012 various members have left the group to either pursue other avenues within music or to exit the industry entirely. Various new chapters have brought in successive waves of new members to replace them.
