Siddharth Basrur
Born on September 19, 1981, in Karnataka, India, Siddharth Basrur is an indie rock singer-songwriter and Bollywood playback singer. Influenced by many artists from classic rock artists like Alice Cooper to playback singers like Kishore Kumar, he became interested in alternative music when he was in his teens. Before his music career, he received a diploma in audio engineering and worked in post-production for the Bollywood film industry. He quit his job in order to focus on a music career and began writing songs before being asked to sing two songs for the 2011 film Haunted 3D. Siddharth Basrur co-founded progressive / hard rock band Goddess Gagged, who released their debut album, Resurfaces, in 2011. After singing songs for the films Players (2012) and David (2013), he released his 2013 solo album, Chasing Rain, in two parts: Chapter 1 and Chapter 2. That same year, he performed at the A Summer’s Day music festival, serving as the opening act to American artist Norah Jones. Siddharth Basrur won the MTV VMAI (Video and Music Awards, India) award in 2013 for Roots Song of the Year. He also nominated for awards from the Radio Cit Awards (2013) and the Jack Daniels Rock Awards (2014). Continuing with his playback career, he performed songs such as “We Know the Way” (from the Hindi-language version of Disney’s Moana in 2016), “Baat Ban Jaaye” (from 2017’s A Gentleman), and “Get Ready to Fight Again” (from 2018’s Baaghi 2). In 2018, Siddharth Basrur’s career reached a highpoint when he sang “Best vs Best” for the 2018 season of the Indian Premier League, also known as IPL 11. He followed that up with “Get Ready to Fight – Reloaded” (from 2020’s Baaghi 3) and “Bloody Sweet” (from 2023’s Leo).
