A social media creator known for her Y2K-inspired style, she was featured in Vogue in 2020 before charting in multiple countries in 2024 with the single "Soaked." Hailing from Quebec City, Canada, Shy Smith landed an interview with iconic fashion magazine Vogue in 2020, when she was 20 years old. Emphasizing her Y2K-inspired style, as demonstrated on her TikTok channel, she donned items like designer tracksuits, high-rise jeans, trucker hats, and more for a feature that found her sharing her love of celebrity culture, films like Mean Girls (2004), and designer handbags. The interview was published that September, with Smith having garnered over 40,000 followers since launching her TikTok channel the previous December. Her channel was also known for lip-synced videos to her favorite music artists of the era, among them Britney Spears, Gwen Stefani, and Fergie. In 2021, she released her first original song, the BeatBusta-produced pop tune "Soaked." The track began trending on TikTok in February 2024 and soon landed in the Top 30 of Billboard's TikTok Top 50. With a quick Robots & Humans/Sony release, it also reached the 50s of the singles charts in Germany, Austria, Ireland, and the U.K. A month later, her 2020 follower count had increased nearly tenfold.
