Sally Yeh

One of the most acclaimed female Cantopop artists of all time, Sally Yeh (born on September 30, 1961), also known as Sally Yip and Yip Sin-Man, is Taiwanese-Canadian singer and actress. Born in Taipei, Yeh moved with her family to Victoria, British Columbia at the age of 4 and soon developed a love for singing and performing. She relocated to Taiwan in the late 80s and made her debut as both singer and actress in Ma Yung Ling’s Honest Little Ma, also lending her voice to the film’s soundtrack. During that time, Yeh recorded five Mandarin albums in association with songwriter Li Tai Xian. In 1983, she relocated to Hong Kong and took the Cantonese market by storm with a highly-successful string of albums including three eponymous full-lengths between 1984 and 1986, Teem Yeen Mut Yu (1987), and Gsook Fook (1988), with the latter racking up an outstanding number of 12 awards at the Hong Kong’s Annual Music Awards. She remained as relevant as ever during the 90s, releasing several chart-topping LPs and winning the Most Popular Hong Kong Female Singer category at the Jade Solid Gold Top Ten Awards four years in a row. Following her departure from Warner Music in 1998, she took five years to deliver You Are Hearing Sally Yeh (2002), which was followed by Inside Out in 2003. Accolades kept coming in subsequent years, as she won the prestigious RTHK Golden Needle Award in 2010 and her 2012 single “Gsing Tiow Sai Shueen” was named Best Single of the Year after staying 8 consecutive weeks on the Chinese Music Awards Chart.
