Phenomden
Representing the Wiedikon district of Zürich and performing in Swiss German dialect, Phenomden was one of the first Swiss reggae artists to attain mainstream success. Born Dennis Furrer on July 18, 1980, in Adliswil, Switzerland, he made his recording debut in 2004 with the single "Cha Nüt Defür." A few more singles followed before Phenomden released his full-length album debut, Fang Ah (2005), on the label One Ton. Featuring collaborations with a wide range of regional reggae bands (e.g., Townnet Crew, the Scrucialists, the Ganglords, Pow Pow Movement), Fang Ah established Phenomden as a rising star amid the Swiss reggae scene. The follow-up album, Style-Generator (2007), billed to Phenom Melody rather than Phenomden, was likewise collaborative yet proved less popular. A one-off single, "Polizischte!" (2007), co-billed to Phenomden & the Scrucialists, was also released. A year later Phenomden broke through to mainstream success with his third album, Gangdalang (2008), which debuted within the Top Ten of the Swiss albums chart and spun off the Top 50 hit single "Stah Da."
