Peter Orloff

Peter Orloff (born March 12, 1944 in Lemgo) is a pop singer, composer, songwriter and music producer from Germany. Born Pyotr Nikolayevich von Orlov, he is the child of a German mother and a Russian nobleman. His Russian father in particular had a decisive influence on his later musical career. He founded the Black Sea Cossack Choir in the 1930s. His son Peter Orloff also joined the choir ensemble in 1958. The artist began his solo career in the music business in the 1960s, initially as a studio singer. It was there that lyricist Heinz Korn discovered him. He produced Peter Orloff's first hit in 1967 with "Das schönste Mädchen der Welt". It was a cover version of a song by the GDR singer Günter Geißler. A year later, Peter Orloff releases his self-titled debut album. The singer enjoyed his most successful period as a solo artist in the early 1970s. During this time, he also appeared as an actor in German Schlager films. In addition to his singing career, Peter Orloff also made a name for himself as a producer. He composed the top hit "Du" (1969) for Peter Maffay. The number 1 single "Der Junge mit der Mundharmonika" (1972) by Bernd Clüver was also penned by Peter Orloff. He later wrote further hits for pop stars such as Freddy Quinn, Rex Gildo, Renate Kern, Bata Illic, Heino, Bernhard Brink, Roy Black and Julio Iglesias. From the 1980s onwards, things became quieter for singer Peter Orloff. In the 1990s, the singer ventured a musical change of direction towards folk music. In 1993, the artist followed in his father's footsteps and took over the overall musical direction of the Black Sea Cossack Choir. Together with the choir, Peter Orloff released several albums and went on regular concert tours. On the occasion of his choir premiere in 1958, Peter Orloff releases the album Golden Anniversary Edition together with the Black Sea Cossack Choir 65 years later in 2023.
