Neon Rose
This progressive rock band was formed in Sweden in 1973 by vocalist Roger Holegard and guitarist Gunnar Hallin. Augmented by Piero Mengarelli (guitar), Beno Mengarelli (bass, vocals) and Thomas Wilkund (drums), they signed to Vertigo Records the following year. Inspired by Iron Butterfly, Emerson, Lake And Palmer and Deep Purple, Neon Rose were an experimental quintet that indulged in long, esoteric and frequently blues-based workouts. They debuted with A Dream Of Glory And Pride in 1974, which showcased the band’s instrumental capabilities, but also highlighted their vocal shortcomings. Two further albums were released, but the quality of material declined significantly. They disappeared from the scene in 1976.
