De Amerikaanse zanger Michael Jackson was zonder twijfel een van de grootste popsterren van de twinitigste eeuw. In zijn jonge jaren maakt hij met zijn broers deel uit van The Jackson 5. Met zijn soloalbum Off the Wall breekt hij in 1979 door als soloartiest. Maar het is het album Thriller (1982) dat hem onsterfelijk zal maken. Met een vernieuwende crossover van pop, rock en funk wordt Thriller niet alleen een muzikale mijlpaal maar ook het best verkochte album aller tijden. In de latere jaren van zijn loopbaan worden zijn muzikale prestaties steed meer overschaduwd door beschuldigingen van seksueel misbruik van kinderen.
