Lyrical Lemonade

From championing rappers to working with them, Lyrical Lemonade may be one of the most notable success stories to come out of the late-2010s rap era. The tenacious blogger-turned-music video director parlayed his vision and taste into becoming a curator of his generation's most notable emcees and lo-fi beat purveyors, culminating in his 2024 debut album, All Is Yellow. Cole Bennett, a native of the Chicago area, founded Lyrical Lemonade as a music blog in 2013, which featured video recaps of local shows, interviews, and music videos with local heroes like Vic Mensa and King Louie. He eventually became an in-demand video creator, collaborating with notable names of the SoundCloud rap genre, from Ski Mask the Slump God and Smokepurpp to Lil Pump and Famous Dex. He crossed over into the mainstream in 2018, directing the video for Juice WRLD's number two hit "Lucid Dreams"; collaborations with Eminem, Jack Harlow, Polo G, Post Malone, Justin Bieber, and even Blink-182 soon followed. After a decade working behind the camera, Bennett spent 2023 assembling a team of friends and collaborators for All Is Yellow, an album released through a joint venture with Def Jam. The collection -- in which the Lyrical Lemonade brand served as an overarching theme, as opposed to a specific vocal or production style -- included the singles "Doomsday" (featuring a posthumous verse from Juice WRLD) and "Stop Giving Me Advice" (featuring Harlow and British conscious rapper Dave), as well as collaborations with Kid Cudi, Lil Durk, Joey Bada$$, and Lil Yachty.
