Lawrence Blatt
New age guitarist Lawrence Blatt grew up in Indiana and began studying the violin at the age of eight. In junior high school, he was a member of the Indiana Youth Symphony. He also studied the bass, and he took up the guitar at the age of 12. He graduated from Indiana University, where he studied music and microbiology. Moving to Los Angeles, he acquired a masters and a Ph.D. in science. He spent five years living in Boulder, CO, where he studied guitar with Laurence Juber. (Other teachers have included Pierre Bensusan and Brian Gore.) In 2001, he relocated to San Francisco. He self-released his debut album, Out of the Woodwork, on his own LMB Music label in 2006. It earned him a designation as Best New Artist by the trade publication New Age Reporter. His second album, Fibonacci's Dream (2008), was inspired by the concepts of 13th century mathematician Leonardo Fibonacci. It reached number two in the New Age Reporter chart. Having produced his first two albums himself, Blatt turned to renowned new age guitarist Will Ackerman to produce his third CD, The Color of Sunshine, released on May 5, 2009.
