Laundry
While taking some time off from Primus in 1993, drummer Tim Alexander got together with guitarist Tom Butler, stick player Ian Varriale and vocalist Tobias Hawkins to form something heavy (but not in a cheesy, metallic sort of sense) while adding a unique blend of exotic rhythms. Hence, Laundry was born. Unfortunately, with Alexander's hectic Primus touring schedule, the bands remained on hold until his schedule permitted it. With only playing a handful of local shows in San Francisco and the release of their first album "Blacktongue" a year after getting together, Laundry could just squeeze in a brief tour with Tool before going on a lengthy hiatus. It wasn't until 1997 when Alexander could dedicate himself full-time to Laundry, even if it meant quitting Primus -- which he grew unhappy with creatively -- and taking over vocal responsibilities. Two and a half years of touring acquired throughout the West Coast before the band tightened up to release their second album "Motivator" in 1999, self-released on their own Rinse-n-Repent Records.
