La Souris Déglinguée
An emblematic group of the French punk movement, La Souris Déglinguée was led by French-Vietnamese singer and guitarist Taï-Luc, from its beginnings in 1976 until his death in 2023. Formed in Versailles in the Yvelines, the high-school band gave its first amateur concerts in the Paris region, with a repertoire of rock'n'roll covers and committed originals, typical of the punk movement then in vogue. On his return from a trip to California, where he had discovered the local punk scene, Nguyen Tan Taï-Luc (born in Suresnes, France, on August 10, 1958) decided to radicalize the music and lyrics of La Souris Déglinguée, commonly known as LSD, which made its first record thanks to the support of the specialist press. The self-produced 45-turn EP Haine, haine, haine (1979) was followed by a homonymous debut album pressed and distributed by the New Rose label in 1981, and a series of sometimes stormy concerts. Recorded before the singer left for military service, the second album Une Cause à Rallier (1982) was followed by a tour without him. His return saw the introduction of new instruments such as the saxophone and accordion, and the addition of backing vocals on the album Aujourd'hui et Demain (1983), followed by La Cité des Anges (1984) and Eddy Jones (1986). A concert at the Zénith in Paris in 1987 marked the height of the band's fame, followed by the Rock en France tour and a new contract with the Musidisc label for the albums Quartier Libre (1988) and Banzaï! (1991), between the compilations International Raya Fan Club Sélection 1980-84 (1990) and L.S.D. Remix 2536 (1993). Now veterans of the French punk scene, La Souris Déglinguée enjoyed a loyal following, which enabled them to continue with the albums Tambour et Soleil (1995), Granadaamok (1997) and Lyon 84 (en public, 1999), before taking a break to renew their inspiration on trips to Asia. Now a bookseller on the banks of the Seine in Paris, Taï-Luc reactivated the band with the album Mékong (2005), followed by As-Tu Déjà Oublié? remixed old tracks (2009) for the independent label Clandestines Records, and LSD Live à la Luna 2011, the last live testimony released in 2013 before the compilation 25 Ans published by Last Call the following year. The band, which performed in Shanghai and Beijing in 2012, continues to perform in France. In 2015, they took part in a festival at the Olympia in Paris and played at the Arènes de Fréjus in August. While the group was dormant, Taï-Luc passed away on December 1, 2023, at the age of 65.
