Jan Harbeck Quartet
Born April 13, 1975 in Aarhus, Denmark, Jan Harbeck is a jazz saxophonist, flautist, and clarinetist. Harbeck studied music at the Royal Academy of Music, Aarhus/Aalborg before furthering his education at The New School in New York City. He has worked with several different orchestras and ensembles – including Live Jive Jungle – but he is best known for his work with his own Jan Harbeck Quartet. Originally comprised of Harbeck, bassist Eske Nørrelykke, pianist Henrik Gunde, and drummer Kresten Osgood (later replaced by Anders Holm), the acoustic jazz band released their debut album, In the Still of the Night, in 2008. The album won a Grammy at the Danish Music Awards. The quartet continued to release critically acclaimed albums such as Copenhagen Nocturne (2011), Variations in Blue (2014/featuring Walter Smith III), and The Sound The Rhythm (2019)
