Greywind

Known for their intensely passionate lyrics that traverse the themes of love, loss, and regret, as well as their huge, heavy rock-infused choruses, Greywind are an alternative rock duo from Killarney, Ireland. Made up of siblings Steph (vocals) and Paul O’Sullivan (guitar), the pair had dreamed of making music professionally and performing all over the world since their early teens. Developing a penchant for the alternative sounds of acts such as Thrice, My Chemical Romance, and Jimmy Eat World, their passion for the alternative rock scene grew when they began to travel to gigs in the U.K., opening up a further world of creative possibilities for them. With a scant number of other local musicians in Killarney, the two wrote their own songs using what they had at hand: pen, paper, and an acoustic guitar. Following a family bereavement, the pair were inspired to begin chasing their dreams with more determination and pressed on despite the lack of a more bandmembers. Still without a name, they eventually conceived "Greywind" after Steph noticed the particular word on Paul's Game of Thrones T-shirt. Shortly thereafter, they completed writing their first song, "Afterthoughts," and went on to record a demo. After uploading the song the following week, the pair were almost instantly flooded with a wave of label interest. Further acclaim materialized after Daniel P. Carter played the track on his BBC Radio One Rock Show slot, leading to Zane Lowe airing it again for his Next Hype choice in September 2014. Despite the fact that they only had "Afterthoughts" online and a small number of other roughly sketched-out song ideas, the duo suddenly amassed a huge following and an ever-burgeoning fan base. Within a number of weeks, Greywind had signed a deal with Raw Power Management. They were then swiftly flown to Sonic Ranch Studios in Texas to begin work on their debut full-length with Grammy Award-winning producer Jason Perry (Don Broco, the Blackout). The resulting effort (also entitled Afterthoughts) comprised the emo rock stylings the two siblings had adored during their teens, as well a more ethereal and atmospheric sound palette akin to post-rock outfits such as Explosions in the Sky and Caspian. The band rounded off 2016 by touring in support of English emo band Moose Blood. Their full-length Afterthoughts was released in early 2017.
