Glen Moore

Here's another player whose normal approach and style aren't always jazz-oriented, but his influences and experiences include several jazz dates. Glen Moore can play with authority in a straight jazz setting, but is better known for his complimentary/interactive role in such groups as the Paul Winter Consort and Oregon. Their musical mix includes as much if not more ethnic, folk and classical strains as jazz. Moore began on piano, then started on bass at 13. He was a professional at 14, and studied in Copenhagen before moving to New York. Moore played with Ted Curson, Jake Hanna and Zoot Sims, recorded with Nick Brignola in 1967 and played periodically with Paul Bley's Synthesizer Show in the late '60s and early '70s. Moore joined The Paul Winter Consort in 1970, and a year later co-founded Oregon with Ralph Towner, Collin Walcott and Paul McCandless. Besides his continuing work with Oregon, Moore recorded with Tim Hardin and Cyrus in the early '70s. He did sessions with Annette Peacock, Larry Coryell and Towner in the '70s, and Zbigniew Seifert in the '80s. Moore recorded with several other bassists on the Enja session Bass Is in 1970, and did a solo date for Elektra in 1979. Bass Is is available on CD.
