David Riniker
David Riniker is a Swiss cellist. Born in Basel, he began taking cello lessons at age 6 as a student of Jean-Paul Guéneux. At 19, he completed his undergraduate degree and went on to earn his soloist diploma in the class of Antonio Meneses at the Music Academy of Basel. He participated in master classes with Arto Noras, Boris Pergamenschikov, Wolfgang Boettcher, and David Geringas. He won major awards at several European competitions, including the Tournoi Eurovision des Jeunes Musiciens and the European Youth Prize in Varna, Bulgaria, and he began touring Europe, Asia, and the Americas. Since 1995, he has been a member of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra and has also played with the 12 Cellists of the Berlin Philharmonic. An avid performer of chamber music, Riniker has appeared with various ensembles, including the Breuninger String Quartet, Trio Oblomov, the Berlin Philharmonic String Trio, and in a duo with violinist Christoph Streuli.
