David Dallas
David Dallas (August 28, 1982) is a New Zealand rapper of European and Samoan descent. Born and raised in the suburbs of Papatoetoe in Auckland, he began performing under the name Con Psy in the hip-hop duo Frontline, whose 2005 studio debut Borrowed Time won Best Urban Album at the 2006 New Zealand Music Awards. A few years later, David Dallas kicked off his solo career with the album Something Awesome (2009), which shot straight to the top of New Zealand's iTunes chart and was shortlisted for the Taite Music Prize. His second album, The Rose Tint, was initially made available as a free download in 2011 and its deluxe retail edition became the highest-selling hip-hop album in New Zealand that year. He followed this success with the Jamiroquai-inspired EP Buffalo Man (2012) and a third LP titled Falling Into Place in 2013. Preceded by the platinum-selling single "Runnin'," Falling Into Place debuted at Number 2 on the local charts and earned David Dallas two wins at the 2014 New Zealand Music Awards. Following the tepid reception of his fourth full-length Hood Country Club in 2017, the Auckland rapper took some time off from his recording career and returned in full force in 2022 with a new version of "Runnin'" that peaked at Number 18 on the NZ Hot Singles chart.
