Alexandra Nepomnyashchaya

Pianist Alexandra Nepomnyashchaya is recognized for her work as a pianist, harpsichordist, and fortepianist, performing both Baroque repertory and later music. Also an enthusiastic chamber musician, she is a member of Duo Pleyel. Nepomnyashchaya was born in Moscow in 1986. At age four, she began lessons at the city's Gnessin Special Music School, oriented toward youngsters who had shown unusual talent. From the beginning, she divided her efforts between piano and harpsichord; among her teachers, at a time when early music was relatively rare in Russia, she took lessons from harpsichordist Olga Martynova. She continued studying historical keyboard instruments with Martynova at the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow, where she matriculated in 2004, also taking organ lessons with Alexey Shmitov. Nepomnyashchaya went on for further studies at the Amsterdam Conservatory in the Netherlands, earning a master's degree after studies with Richard Egarr and Menno van Delft. Nepomnyashchaya rounded out her education at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Munich, studying with Christine Schornsheim. She also took master classes with such figures as Andreas Staier, Trevor Pinnock, and Bob van Asperen. Nepomnyashchaya made her recording debut in 2010 on the Caro Mitis label, joining violinist Sergey Filchenko as a fortepianist on an album of Mozart's violin sonatas. Nepomnyashchaya has been heard on several duo-piano recordings with Duo Pleyel, whose other member is Egarr; he is also her husband. She has appeared at leading venues in Western Europe, Russia, and East Asia, including the Centre de Musique Baroque de Versailles in France, the Amsterdam Concertgebouw, and the Barbican in London. She works at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague as a rehearsal pianist and coach. Nepomnyashchaya often performs with the Residentie Orkest in the Hague, the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra, and the Academy of Ancient Music in London. In 2024, she made her first recording for the Linn Records label, featuring the Componimenti musicali per il cembalo of Gottlieb Muffat.
