Elohim
Elohim is a Los Angeles-based singer, songwriter, and producer who crafts hook-savvy, hip-hop influenced electropop. She ermerged in the latter half of the 2010s with a mysterious public image and moody tracks like "Xanax" and "Sleepy Eyes." She made her name with two consecutive self-titled releases, a 2016 EP and a 2018 full-length, as well as collaborations with artists like Skrillex, Quinn XCII, and Whethan. Beginning 2021, Elohim released a series of self-examining EPs called Journey to the Center of Myself, the fourth of which arrived in early 2022. The 2023 Walker & Royce and Glass Petals collaboration, "Stop Time," was followed by more solo work including the 2024 single "Tiny Human."
Finding artistic freedom in anonymity, Elohim initially kept her face hidden and masked her voice in interviews, keeping all but a few personal details to herself like the fact that she began playing piano at the age of five and started singing at nine. Influenced in equal measure by Rachmaninov and Debussy as Radiohead and Björk, Elohim's resulting output was a dark-hued strain of synth pop in the vein of Lorde and Grimes. Making her debut in 2015, Elohim released the singles "She Talks Too Much" and "Xanax," both of which appeared on her debut album, Elohim, which arrived in 2016. "Hallucinating" followed later that year, marking a shift in sound that expanded her sonic palette by including horns and even a mariachi flair. In 2017, Elohim released the singles "Skinny Legs" and "Sleepy Eyes," a collaboration with Whethan. Both songs appeared on Elohim, her second self-titled effort, which was released in early 2018. Later in the year, her single "Connect" appeared, co-produced by Skrillex and issued on his OWSLA label. Early in 2019, "Buckets," another single from their collaboration, was released; she was also featured on Detroit-based vocalist/songwriter Quinn XCII's single "Holding Hands." In May of that year, Elohim issued an extended deluxe edition of her debut LP featuring remixes of many of its tracks. The following week, she issued the EP Braindead, with revealing songs written and produced by her that focused on her own mental health struggles.
Heading into the next decade, tracks like "Group Therapy" and "I'm Lost" further reflected these issues and in 2021 Elohim launched the exploratory Journey to the Center of Myself, an ambitious new project intended to span four EPs. The first three volumes were released throughout the rest of that year with Journey to the Center of Myself, Vol. 4 appearing in early 2022. Around that time, she also released "Nothing Good Comes Easy" with Felix Cartel. This kicked off a string of collaborations that saw her pair up with Travie McCoy, Alex Lustig, Yoke Lore and others. 2023's "Stop Time" with Walker & Royce and Glass Petals was followed by solo tracks like "Afraid To Fail," "Broken Face," and 2024's "Tiny Human."
