A set for the season, Gucci Mane Presents: So Icy Summer is a sprawling crew compilation that showcases the titular label head, his famous friends, and some up-and-comers taking their moments in the spotlight. Like other post-prison Gucci releases, So Icy Summer balances his reformed and (mostly) lawful point of view with snapshots of a past life filled with sex, drugs, and street violence. Production highlights include the Zaytoven-helmed opener "Step Out" with Future and Foogiano, the creeping "Breasto" (another with Foogiano), the propulsive "Gucci Land" with Young Thug, and the hypnotic, piano-infused "Lesson" with Foogiano and Pooh Shiesty. In addition to those two fresh faces, So Icy also elevates label rookies like Ola Runt, BIG30, and the So Icy Girlz (Enchanting and K Shiday). Bursting at the seams with two dozen tracks, the effort is more value for money than timeless classic, a wealth of subwoofer-shattering trap anthems to soundtrack the summer.
