One of the most admired pianists of his generation, Inon Barnatan kicks off his complete Beethoven piano concertos cycle with this double album, together with the Academy of St Martin in the Fields and maestro Alan Gilbert. Ranging from the classical First and romantic Third to the experimental Fourth Piano Concerto, and closing with the festive Triple Concerto, Barnatan and his colleagues display the exceptional expressive range and stylistic diversity of Beethoven’s musical language. For the Triple Concerto, Barnatan joins forces with violinist Stefan Jackiw and cellist Alisa Weilerstein. This recording project bears the fruit of longstanding and profound musical friendships, and – surprisingly – offers the first integral recording of Beethoven piano concertos by the Academy of St Martin in the Fields, one of the most-recorded ensembles in the world of classical music. © Pentatone

Nils Frahm, An Atypical Piano Master

Hailed by critics of classical music as well as amateurs of electronic experiences, Nils Frahm’s talent has managed to get everyone to agree for the last ten years. Whether he plays on a church organ or a synthesiser fitted with effect pedals, the German pianist is always looking forward, and that’s what makes him so appealing.

Beethoven: Fidelio's Big Adventure

Based on a story from France during the Revolutionary Terror (the story of an intrepid young woman who disguised herself as a man to save her husband from the dungeon), Beethoven's unique opera has had a turbulent life, and has been reworked here and there over the years. New proof of the German composer's musical genius, Fidelio also permitted him to write a musical setting for a libretto that matched his political beliefs.

Women Composers: A Secret History

From Sappho of Mytilene to Kaija Saariaho, music history has been marked by female figures who “dared” to write music. Is creation a male privilege? Our sound museum does hold more well-known and recognised male than female composers. Yet their works are no less exciting and there is absolutely no reason for them to play second fiddle, or be ignored altogether. Below, you’ll find a defence and illustration of female composition works through eleven musical portraits.
