Mantra of the Cosmos

A supergroup of Britpop veterans, Mantra of the Cosmos finds former Happy Mondays singer Shaun Ryder and his trusty lieutenant Bez teaming with guitarist Andy Bell and drummer Zak Starkey, two musicians who once served in Oasis; the Fall's Brix Smith was later added as bassist. On their two first singles, "Gorilla Guerilla" and "X (Wot You Sayin?)," Mantra of the Cosmos revived the kaleidoscopic dance-rock of the 1990s, leaning more toward Black Grape than (What's the Story) Morning Glory. Zak Starkey instigated Mantra of the Cosmos, approaching Shaun Ryder with the idea of a group that blended dub, dance, and rock in May 2023. The band fell together quickly, with Starkey bringing Bell aboard and Ryder drafting Bez. They released "Gorilla Guerilla" in June 2023, then added the Fall's bassist Brix Smith for their set at that year's Glastonbury Festival. In August, Mantra of the Cosmos released their second single, "X (Wot You Sayin?)."
