1979

Giovanni Salviato, better known as Venetian-born DJ 1979, began releasing music in 2015 but had his first taste of international fame in 2018 by way of driving techno anthem "Space Cake." The Amsterdam-based club DJ – who has released music on labels including fryhide and Klangwelt – dropped his debut Endless EP in 2015, serving up three tracks of wafting electronica. However, he put himself on the map with 2017 single "Prototipo," and its accompanying eponymous EP, both released via Addicted Music. Enamored by club and rave culture as a teenager, Salviato studied classical piano before edging towards the dance music sphere. Following the breakthrough release of "Prototipo" in 2017, Salviato delivered a pair of singles in 2018, "Once I Saw The Sky" and "Metro / Distanza," and in 2019 joined forces with German DJ and producer HOSH for notable dance collaboration, "Midnight (The Hanging Tree)" featuring singer Jalja. The track, a dance version of James Newton Howard's Hunger Games's song "The Hanging Tree," gained traction on the dance music charts and was picked up in January 2020 by Mark Gillespie and Pete Tong's Three Six Zero Recordings, with UK release being promoted by Sony's Ministry of Sound records label. The song became a Top 40 UK chart hit in June 2020.
