This sadly out of print LP (a Pacific Jazz release last put out by Discovery in 1984) has long been considered a classic. Bandleader-arranger Gerald Wilson has always been a great admirer of bullfighters, and the powerful "Carlos" from this album became a permanent part of his repertoire. The other nine selections also pay tribute to aspects of Mexico and the soloists (which include trumpeters Jimmy Owens, Conte Candoli, and Nat Meeks; Roy Ayers or Victor Feldman on vibes; guitarist Laurindo Almeida; and the tenors of Harold Land and Teddy Edwards) seem quite inspired by the material. One of Gerald Wilson's most memorable albums.
