Since appearing on the scene in 2008, the ever-shifting Blessure Grave went through myriad changes in lineup, style, and approach, offering up countless releases of widely varying material on a slew of smaller-scale cassette and EP releases. Much of their efforts culminated on 2010's full-length Judged by Twelve Carried by Six, an album's worth of dingy, dark-hearted post-punk. The Flashing represents the band's first set of new material in the four years since that album, and a return to some of the more subdued neo-folk influences they were exploring on their earliest cassette releases. Somber and heartbroken compositions like "My Whole Life" and "The Cage" leave behind fuzzy guitars and booming drums for a more acoustic darkness informed by the Cure's most dreamy nightmares and Death in June's endless gentle torment.
