The power of pop music will apparently never wane. This is the umpteenth example, this time spearheaded by Lili Trifilio, the brains behind Beach Bunny who releases their first thrilling album without reinventing the wheel but simply juggling with the standards of the genre. The lyrics are directly autobiographical with cutting rhythms, sunny guitars, ultra-catchy choruses and a sprinkling of punk/garage. Liz Phair and Best Coast come to mind when listening to Honeymoon which, without pretentiousness references the classic “I’m alone, I’m bored, I like him, he doesn’t like me back” tropes but without ever sounding repetitive. Even when armed with such redeeming minimalism, the Beach Bunny singer is already showing a fantastic magnetism that should be followed with a close watch. © Marc Zisman/Qobuz
