With Breathe, Midge Ure attempted to make a comeback to the pop mainstream in the mid-'90s by targeting the adult alternative market. Consequently, Breathe is atmospheric and lush, with airy melodies and interweaving keyboards. The new approach might have been a success if Ure had written songs as memorably melodic as his earlier solo hits -- not to mention his singles with Ultravox -- but he has opted for texture over songcraft, which makes Breathe a pleasant, but unengaging listen.
