The first single from Alone With Everybody, Richard Ashcroft's debut solo project that announced the arrival of the Verve's former frontman. "A Song for the Lovers offers a combination of lush, sweeping string arrangements and heartfelt lyrics that propelled the song into the U.K. Top Ten in the spring of 2000. The highlight here is the B-side, "(Could Be) A Country Thing, City Thing, Blues Thing," which spells out the power of the love song in any musical language or form. Unfortunately, "Precious Stone" suffers from disorganization, and further proves the theory as to why some songs do not always appear on the finished album.
