U.S. Highball
Idioma disponible: inglésCombining bouncy rhythms, Byrds-derived jangle, and gentle, Peter & Gordon-like harmonies, Glaswegian indie pop duo U.S. Highball emerged from the ashes of the Pooches in 2017. They made their full-length debut with Great Record in 2019. Continuing to keep the majority of their songs under two minutes in length, they returned a year later with Up to High Doh before upgrading home-recording gear (and slightly expanding track times) for 2022's A Parkhead Cross of the Mind. James Hindle and Calvin Halliday became fast friends after meeting in 2005 and discovering overlapping musical tastes. D.I.Y. indie pop group the Pooches was started in 2013 as a solo outlet for Hindle's songwriting; he released Smoochin' with the Pooches in August 2014. It received a limited cassette release by Gold Mold Records in the U.K. and college radio play in the U.S. The Pooches signed with Lame-O Records as a four-piece -- Hindle on voice and guitar, Halliday on drums, Andy Kelly on guitar, and Gavin Cormack on bass -- and delivered both an EP (Heart Attack) and an eponymous album in 2016. They followed those two months later with the Harmless Offering EP, a set of demos and instrumentals. The Pooches released a final single, "Rats & Rats," in early 2017 before disbanding. Hindle and Halliday found chemistry as a duo, including collaborating on songwriting, and soon formed U.S. Highball. Their three-song debut, Think Again, appeared on Lame-O in November 2018. They quickly followed it in mid-2019 with 14 originals for their full-length debut, Great Record. Recorded and mixed by Hindle, the like-minded Up to High Doh saw release in November 2020. The pair decided to upgrade equipment and turn up the volume for their third LP. Cut down from 40 songs to 12, the punchier, still home-recorded A Parkhead Cross of the Mind arrived on Lame-O and Yorkshire-based Bingo Records in March 2022. The final track list included a cover of power pop influence Jimmy Silva's "Grease the Wheel."
