Somewhat of a surprising and unexpected anomaly on the beat-driven pop and country charts a dozen years into the 21st century, the Lumineers' infectious song "Ho Hey" is a sparse, acoustic-based song where the title phrase only shows up in the background, chain gang-like shouts that are essentially the percussion elements that anchor it. It's a sweet song of love and longing, with a natural, flowing melody and lyrics that are easy to sing along with after only a hearing or two, all of which make it feel both natural and refreshing, a sort of timeless back porch acoustic singalong.
