On-going Frédéric Lodéon discography, with the complete recordings he dedicated for Erato to Luigi Boccherini. The Italian composer, who was the first cello-hero and contributed to the increasing enthusiasm for his chosen instrument throughout Europe, popularized the genre of cello concerto by composing a dozen of works of both great sensitivity and stunning virtuosity. Frédéric Lodéon recorded two of those with Theodor Guschlbauer, trained himself as a cellist, and with whom he had previously performed works from Boccherini’s contemporary Joseph Haydn. Two other concertos were recorded a few years later with Armin Jordan. © Warner Classics
