Orlane

French zouk love singer Orlane was born on Reunion Island on January 15, 1971. In her teens, Orlane, who had been lulled by the sounds of Africa, the Caribbean and mainland France since childhood, began singing in a choir before completing her studies in economics and law. She then decided to turn to an artistic career, and took to the stage with an acoustic jazz quartet, opening for artists such as Al Jarreau and Chick Corea in the mid-1990s. In 1996, she discovered Martinique and the French West Indies, where she decided to settle. With songwriter and producer Éric Virgal, she found an artistic partner who helped her give birth to her first album, Tout Simplement , in 1997. She followed this up with J'Aime in 1999, Dans la Lumière in 2003, and Double Album Live, a live album recorded in 2004. Nicknamed "the Diva of Zouk" in the Caribbean, she devotes much of her time to her tours, which take her as far afield as Africa and the USA, and only returns to the studio in 2009 with Intemporelle. This was followed by the album Lov' in 2013 and Horizons Libres in 2019.
