The Orchard is een intiem, intens persoonlijk album dat behoort tot een van boeiendste van Lizz Wrights carrière. Met de hulp van singer-songwriter Toshi Reagon, Marc Anthony Thompson (die opereert onder de naam Chocolate Genius) en leden van Ollabelle, Calexico en Bob Dylans band, heeft Wright een mooi organisch gevoel weten vast te leggen op The Orchard, een perfect vehikel voor haar expressieve stem en originele kijk op songschrijven. Ondanks alle hulp klinkt Wright zelf nog het krachtigst door op dit album, of het nou in het prachtige eigen nummer "When I Fall" is of in haar versies van Ike & Tina's "I Idolize You" of Led Zeppelins "Thank You"
