A double-CD compilation in commemoration of Savage Rose's 25th anniversary, drawing from most of the albums they recorded between the late '60s and early '90s. As an extremely eclectic and album-oriented group, Savage Rose aren't as well served by compilations as the average band. This is a decent enough way to get a rough feel for what the group has accomplished. But as an overview it's too diffuse, especially since the first disc only goes through 1973 and the second disc covers the decade 1982-1992 exclusively. There's nothing at all from one of their most celebrated albums (Your Daily Gift, 1970), or the Danish-language-dominated 1978 record, Sole Var Ogsa Din. In its favor, it does include several of their most outstanding early songs ("Wild Child," "A Girl I Knew," "A Trial in Our Native Town," "Dear Little Mother," "Evening's Child"). Also, the material from the 1980s and 1990s on disc two -- which will be mostly unknown to U.S. listeners -- stacks up pretty well against (and is fairly similar to) their early recordings.
