Steve Kuhn Trio

An American jazz pianist whose career has been as prolific as it has been innovative, Steve Kuhn followed a classical apprenticeship before making his debut in Kenny Dorham's quintet in 1960. After collaborations with John Coltrane, Stan Getz, Toshiko Akiyoshi, Gary McFarland, Oliver Nelson and Art Farmer, the musician ventured into very different registers, most often in trio(Three Waves in 1966). The first ECM period, often referenced with the albums Trance (1974) and Playground (1979), includes solo works, acoustic or electric, sometimes close to the new age. The author of the standard "The Saga of Harrison Crabfeathers", loyal to partners such as Steve Swallow, Ron Carter, Al Foster, David Finck, Billy Drummond and Joey Baron, never ceases to surprise and reinvent himself, as evidenced by the albums Life's Magic (1987), Seasons of Romance (1995) and Pavane for a Dead Princess (2006). The critically acclaimed tribute Mostly Coltrane is followed by Wisteria (2012).
