Priya Saraiya

A Bollywood playback singer, lyricist, and solo artist, Priya Saraiya was born as "Priya Panchal" in Mumbai, India, on November 19, 1984. She began singing as a child, receiving an education not only in Hindustani classical music, but in western music, as well. Mentored by composers Kalyanji Virji Shah and Anandji Virji Shah, she toured heavily as a young member of the duo's group, Little Wonders/Little Stars. 2011's F.A.L.T.U. marked her Bollywood debut, with Priya Saraiya duetting with fellow singer Vijay Prakash on "Gale Laga Le." She wrote the song's lyrics, too, along with three additional musical numbers from the film's accompanying soundtrack. Shor In The City, a Hindi-language film that was released that same year, also featured Saraiya's contributions as a vocalist and lyricist, as did 2012's Tere Naal Love Ho Gaya. "Piya O Re Piya (Sad)," one of Tere Naal Love Ho Gaya's musical highlights, earned Saraiya a nomination for "Upcoming Female Vocalist of the Year" at the Mirchi Music Awards. She continued working in the Bollywood industry throughout the 2010s and early 2020s, singing songs in films like 2014's Happy Ending, 2015's ABCD 2 (whose soundtrack was an "Album of the Year" nominee at the Mirchi Music Awards), and 2019's Made in China. She also built a reputation as a Gujarati folksinger, performing on episodes of India's MTV Unplugged series in 2015, 2017, and 2019. Two years later, she landed a Top 40 hit in India with "Kalle Kalle," one of several songs that she sang for the movie Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui.
