Okoumé

Okoumé is a Quebec rock band formed in Quebec City, Canada, in 1995 by Éloi Painchaud, Éric Gosselin, Jonathan Painchaud, Hugo Perreault and Michel Duguay. In 1995, they won first prize in the Pro-Scène competition, which consisted of 100 hours of studio recording. In the summer of 1997, the band released their first homonymous album, which went platinum in 1999, selling over 100,000 copies. Songs such as " À l'enfant que j'aurai ", " Dis-moi pas ça ", " Europe ", " La Belle et l'anglaise ", " La Lune pleure ", " La Mer à boire ", " Le Bruit des origines " and " Reste " were chart hits on Quebec radio. In the following months, they are invited to perform at the Festival d'Été de Québec and the Francofolies de Montréal. In the fall of 1997, they opened for Zachary Richard. In the spring of 1998, Okoumé toured Quebec with a series of concerts entitled Où Est-Ce Qu'On Va Prendre l'Argent? The band released a second opus, Plan B , in 2000. They manage to place four songs in the Quebec charts: " Cheval de fer ", " De la terre à la lune ", " Irresponsable" and " Son rire". Friction set in within the band's entourage, and the group broke up in 2002. Okoumé reunited for a show in Montreal in 2014, as part of the Coup de cœur francophone festival.
