Urochromes
Urochromes play a frantic, confrontational brand of drum machine-driven punk which has absolutely no interest in conforming to the perceived rules and standards of the genre. By turns frightening and funny, the band's short, ferocious tunes express existential frustration while displaying a biting sense of humor. Following several EPs and live recordings, the group released their full-length debut, Trope House, in 2019.
Guitarist Dick Riddick and wildly energetic frontman Jackie Boy (Jack McDermott, also of the Sediment Club) formed Urochromes in Western Massachusetts in 2015. A cassette titled Get in Line 4 Mental Decline appeared that year, and most of the songs were included on the group's self-titled debut 7" the following year. The group toured across the United States, Canada, and Europe, with different musicians joining the two core musicians each time. An LP titled Anthology, containing both live and studio recordings, was released by Feeding Tube Records in 2016, while a session at Jersey City radio station WFMU was released as one side of a split LP with Wizzard Sleeve. An EP titled The Beat Sessions was released on cassette in 2017 by Shout Recordings (and later as a 7" by Drunken Sailor), while Wharf Cat issued the Night Bully EP, which included remixes by Boy Harsher. Two years later, Urochromes' debut studio album, Trope House, appeared on the same label, including covers of songs by the Lemonheads and Bikini Kill.
