Sukshinder Shinda
Born Sukshinder Pal Sing Bhullar in Dhamai, Hoshiarpur, Punjab on May 29, 1972, Sukshinder Shinda is a British-Indian playback singer, songwriter, music director, and producer. Raised in Birmingham, England, he is best known for his work in Punjabi cinema (a.k.a. Pollywood). Growing up, he studied classical Punjabi music under musicians such as Jaipal Singh Matharu, Ustad Ajit Singh Matlashi, and Ustad Lal Singh Bhatti. Sukshinder Shinda released his first album, Dhol Beat Ek, in 1993, which was followed by the World of Bass EP (1995) and the albums Maximum Bass (1996), Kudos (1997), Fatal Attraction (1998), and Dhol Beat 2 (Takue Te Takua) (1998). During this period, he was also producing and collaborating with Indo-Canadian Punjabi singer-songwriter Jazzy B (not to be confused with Soul II Soul’s Jazzie B.). Sukshinder Shinda has also produced other artists including Amrinder Gill, Avtar Singh Kang, Nachhatar Gill, and others. He made his Pollywood performance debut in the film Shaheed Udham Singh (2000) and debuted as an actor in 2006’s Chuk De Punjabi. Further soundtrack work includes Teesri Aankh: The Hidden Camera (2006), Munde U.K. De (2009), Best of Luck (2013), and Romeo Ranjha (2014). Sukshinder Shinda has released a series of albums including three popular volumes in his Collaborations series (2006, 2009, and 2014) and two religious releases: Satguru Mera (2009) and Choj Khalseh De (2013). His best-known tracks include “Soni Lagdi” (2003), “Hurrr” (2012), “Dil Vaarda” (2013), “Yaar Di Jago” (2018), and “The World is Watching” (2021). During his career, Sukshinder Shinda has won several awards including Best Album and Best Video at the UK Asian Music Awards (2006), Best Act and Best Album at the UK Asian Music Awards (2008), Best Producer at the Brit Asia TV Music Awards (2010), and the Best Non-Resident Punjabi Album for 2006’s Collaborations.
