Joost Lijbaart
Amsterdam-based Joost Lijbaart established himself as a staple in European jazz, lending his skills as a drummer to numerous artists over the years.
Born in 1967, he began learning drums at age seven. He went on to graduate with honors from the Hilversum Conservatory in 1991, and within five years he'd released his debut album, 1996's Star Tracks, as part of the Yuri Honing Trio. He played with the trio for over 20 years, releasing over five albums with them. He also played in his own quartet, Group of Friends, and in a duo with Wolfert Brederode, with the group Batik, and as part of an improvisation trio called Under the Surface with Sanne Rambags and Bram Stadhouders. He began teaching entrepreneurship at the Conservatory in Amsterdam and the Prins Claus Conservatory in Groningen in 2016.
