Henning May
Henning May (born Henning Gemke on January 13, 1992) is a German singer-songwriter, mostly known for being the lead singer of rock band AnnenMayKantereit. Gifted with a deep, raspy voice, May founded the band with Christopher Annen and Severin Kantereit after graduating from high school in 2011. They kicked off their career with the promising EP Wird schon irgendwie gehen (2015), which peaked at Number 33 on the German charts. That same year, May was featured on hip-hop collective KIZ’s “Hurra die Welt geht unter,” providing vocals for the chorus. AMK’s breakthrough moment arrived with Alles nix Konkretes (2016), a solid collection of folk rock songs that spawned the hit single “Pocahontas” and was certified platinum after selling more than 300,000 copies. The band followed up with Schlagschatten (2018), which peaked at Number 2 on the German charts and increased the band’s popularity in their home country. After a short break from AMK, the singer collaborated with rapper Juju on “Vermissen,” a dark trap track that earned May his first number one hit single in Germany and a 1LIVE Krone award for Best Single.
