Gilberto Alves
A very popular singer from the '40s until the '60s, Gilberto Alves had some of his biggest hits with songs like "Pombo Correio," "Recordar é Viver," "De Lanterna Na Mão," "Agora É Tarde," "Natureza Bela," "Cecília," and "Louca Pela Boêmia."
His professional debut as a singer was around 1935 at the Rádio Clube do Brasil. He also worked during that period for Rádio Guanabara and for other radio stations, joining Rádio Nacional in 1948 and Rádio Tupi in 1949 (where he retired in 1970). He recorded his first album in 1938, with "Mulher Toma Juízo" and "Favela Dos Meus Amores." His first hit was "Trá-Lá-Lá," recorded in 1940. Other hits of his were "Natureza Bela" (1942), the Carnival march "Cecília" (1943), the fox trot "Adeus" (1944), and the Carnival march "Rosa Maria" (1948).
