Dead Poet Society
East Coast-born, Los Angeles-based rock band Dead Poet Society specialize in an emotionally charged blend of dark alternative hard rock and progressive indie music rooted in angst and outrage at the world and themselves. After emerging in 2013, the group issued their debut long-player, Axiom, independently in 2015 and continued to refine their sound on 2021's aggressive -!- and 2024's Fission, both released on Spinefarm.
The band met at college in Boston and originally comprised Jack Underkofler (lead vocals/guitar), Jack Collins (guitar), Will Goodroad (bass), and Nick Taylor (bass). They issued an EP, Weapons, in 2013. Although the release initially failed to gain traction, it found an audience in Mexico, where they staged their first major tour. After the group had replaced Taylor with Dylan Brenner on bass, they released two further EPs, 2015's Axiom and 2016's Dempsey. With the new lineup firmly cemented, Dead Poet Society put together the hard-hitting -!-, which saw release in 2021 through Spinefarm Records. Three years later, the band released the aptly named Fission, a turbulent and anthemic set of songs that focused on themes of struggle and personal change.
